Abstract: The advantages of high strain rate and high response frequency of giant magnetostractive actuator (GMA) and the structure characteristics of pulsed jet on-off device are utilized to build a new kind of pulsed jet on-off valve based on GMA. The system transfer functions of GMA and the main body of pulsed jet on-off valve under dynamic working condition are analyzed respectively. The system block diagram and transfer function between the flux and the jet speed of pulsed jet on-off valve with the driving current are built on the basis of transfer functions of GMA and the main body of the pulsed jet on-off valve. The results of dynamic simulation of on-off valve by Simulink show that the working frequency of the valve is higher than 400 Hz, which fulfills the working requirement of most pulsed jet on-off valve. The sweep frequency experiment result of spool displacement demonstrates that the model of the valve can correctly reflect the dynamic characteristics of the valve in low frequency scope, but in high frequency scope, the effect of temperature and hysteresis should be considered.
