Abstract: Through comparison analysis of the laser weld bonding (LWB) and laser welding of magnesium alloy, the adhesive layer’s action and its effect on LWB of similar metals or dissimilar metals are discussed. By collecting and analyzing the welding spectra, it is found that, compared to laser welding, the density of the photo-induced magnesium plasma is increased, particles collision aggravated and there are more magnesium particles getting out of the weld seam in laser weld bonding. The adhesive layer also has the effect of increasing weld penetration. The result of the shearing experiments shows that the max shearing force of the laser welding is almost the same as that of LWB with the adhesive layer which is not solidified, it can be concluded that the adhesive layer does not have negative effect on the performance of welded joints.
