Investigation on Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell Stacks of Domestic Key Materials and Components

Abstract: According to the technical and application demands of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), the key materials and components, including the catalyst, composite proton exchange membrane, carbon paper, and bipolar plate, are characterized and stack developed. The results show that these materials and components attain the technical level of the import products and suffice for fuel cell vehicle technologies. Presently, the composite proton exchange membrane is mass produced, the capability of mass production of carbon paper and catalyst is also ready, and mass production process and equipment for thin stainless steel bipolar plate has entered development phase. The performance assessment of these materials and components in PEMFC vehicle engine is being implemented. According to the preliminary estimate, the application of these materials and components will reduce the cost of PEMFC stacks by about 50% and improve the performance, which lays the foundation for promoting the practical application of domestic fuel cell products.
