Abstract: During CNC machining, cutter diameter and cutting parameter dramatically affect the energy consumption of the final product. Compared with single optimization of cutter diameter or cutting parameters, the energy consumption can be further reduced by an integrating optimization of the both. In order to conduct an integrating optimization of cutter diameter and cutting parameters for energy-aware multi-tool hole machining, the machining time and energy consumption of multi-tool hole machining is firstly analyzed. Then a multi-objective optimization model for minimizing machining time and energy consumption is proposed and solved by a multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm. Finally, the necessity of integrating optimization of cutter diameter and cutting parameters is presented and the proposed model is validated by case studies.
