Abstract: With the combination of stress and environment, natural cracks in structures usually exist in the form of multiple, colony and crossing et al. When detecting the cracks using eddy current testing technique, the disturbed eddy currents of individual parts in complex cracks will generate magnetic signals. The magnetic signals will superpose together, which makes it hard to accurately evaluate the parameters of complex cracks through traditional methods. To reconstruct the surface profile of complex cracks, in this paper, a novel method fusing rotating eddy current testing technique and eddy current mapping was proposed. In the new method, the signal of rotating eddy current testing probe is transformed into the results of uniform eddy current probe at the desired moment first. Then, the eddy current mapping is obtained from the deconvolution of signals. Finally, all the results are accumulated. At the same time, experiment system is set up, and method is validated. The experiment results indicate that merely using magnetic signal is inadequate to evaluate the surface profile of complex cracks. Using the proposed method, the position, orientation, and surface profile of complex cracks can be obviously obtained. The accurate of the proposed method is high with the maximum reconstructed error of below 5%.
