Abstract: Serious naphthenic acid corrosion existed during inferior high acid crude oil refining. The influencing rules of the key factors on naphthenic acid corrosion should be confirmed to achieve the goal of precise corrosion predication or lifetime assessment to ensure the safety of crude oil refining equipments. The influence of key factors such as temperature, content of active sulfides, flow rate, flushing angle and turbulence intensity on naphthenic acid corrosion is studied, the relationship between temperature and corrosion rate is confirmed and the isothermal assessment of active sulfides on napthenic acid corrosion is introduced; the transformation from uniform corrosion at 0° flushing angle to pitting corrosion at high flushing angles is clarified, the increase of flow rate could accelerate naphthenic acid corrosion but could not change its uniform corrosion mode, when the flushing angle is increased to 15°, small corrosion pits formed, when the flushing angle is increased to 90°, naphthenic acid corrosion transformed to pitting corrosion, the maximum corrosion depth of corrosion pits is closely related with local turbulence intensity, naphthenic acid pitting corrosion became more serious under high turbulence intensity.

Key words: naphthenic acid corrosion, content of active sulfides, flow rate, flushing angle, turbulence intensity
