Study on the Rail Corrugation at Weld Joint of Steel Spring Floating Slab Track I: Initial Evolution

Abstract: Filed observations and measurements are carried out to obtain the characteristic of the initial corrugation at welded joint on the straight line of steel spring floating slab track in a metro. The wavelength is 250-600 mm. The corrugation at 20 mm from the gauge-side of rail is more serious than that at 30 mm and 40 mm. A rail corrugation model based on steel spring floating slab track is put forward, in which a rigid-flexible metro vehicle-floating slab track model, Kalker's non-Hertzian rolling contact theory,material wear model and wear accumulation model are combined. The initial evolution of rail corrugation in the vicinity of concave weld joint is analyzed. The obtained results show that the corrugation wavelengths of left and right rail are different at different stages in the long-term evolution. With the development of corrugation, the wavelengths of left and right rail are basically identical. The simulation results are in good agreement with filed measured wavelengths. The wear in the area near the gauge-side of rail is serious.This phenomenon is consistent with the field investigation. The study can provide an important theoretical basis for the prevention and control of corrugation at weld joint on the straight line of steel spring floating slab track.
