Abstract: The wheel abnormal wear of a certain B-type metro train is analyzed in detail by means of field experiments and numerical simulation. The wheel/rail static contact is analyzed based on wheel/rail contact geometry relationship and wheel/rail rolling contact theory. The vehicle dynamics simulation model and wheel wear prediction model of the metro are built with UM, moreover the wheelset motion and wheel wear are calculated. The cause of abnormal wear on wheel flange and tread is analyzed by comparing the simulation results of different wheel/rail matching. Furthermore, the corresponding control measures are put forward. The results show that the investigated metro line has a large proportion of small-radius curve as well as an abnormal rail cant. The main cause of abnormal wear is the improper matching of wheel and rail profile at the large rail cant. It has a limited effect on improving wheel abnormal wear to modify the rail cant of the whole line to 1/40. In order to effectively mitigate wheel abnormal wear of the metro vehicle, changing the wheel profile from S1002 to LM when turning wheels should be considered.
