Abstract: Nomex honeycomb composite material is a kind of typical hardworking material, with the characteristic of anisotropy. Ultrasonic assisted cutting is a kind of high-efficient method that can get better macro processing morphology when processing honeycomb composite materials. Nomex honeycomb composite material with method of ultrasonic assisted cutting would arise varying degree of manufacturing deficiency that contains fiber pulling and the peeling off phenolic resin. In order to research the microscopic shape characteristic bringing by ultrasonic assisted cutting. Machined surfaces are observed by digital microscope, and classified by the cutting modes which contains lengthwise cutting, oblique cutting, and across cutting. Processing plane is summarized by the location of feature. Influence of feed rate and ultrasonic tool amplitude to the damage forms are researched. The result shows that the probability of phenolic resin peeling would be reduce when increasing amplitude in the range of 10μm to 30μm or decreasing feed rate of ultrasonic tool in the range of 500 mm/min to 3 500 mm/min.
