Abstract: The elastic deformation of wheelset caused by wheel flat increases the vibration acceleration of vehicle components, but the rigid body dynamics model is mainly adopted in the the related research at present. In order to study the vibration characteristic of high speed vehicles due to wheel flat more accurately, based on the mature and widely known vehicle-track coupling model and the rigid-flexible coupling model of vehicle system, a corresponding analytical model is improved, where the influences of elastic deformation of main vehicle parts and track are comprehensively considered. The results indicate that the wheel elastic deformation has little effect on wheel/rail vertical force, but has a great influence on axle-box cover vertical vibration in the presence of wheel flat. Through the transfer of bogie or rail, the impact load generated by wheel flat can cause small fluctuation of wheel-rail force on the two wheels, which are on the same wheelset and at the same side of the bogie respectively. Due to wheel flat, the two axle-box cover vibration acceleration at the wheelset with wheel flat is greater than the other two of the same bogie. What is more, the influence of wheel flat on bogie frame end vertical vibration cannot be ignored at low speed. The research results reveal the importance of the elastic deformation of vehicle-track system due to wheel flat, and have great significance for wheelset condition monitoring.
