Abstract: This paper advances a new theory and method for identification of the model parameters of a Vibration system. The method consists of the following processes: the system is excited by a hammer and the response is measured by the strain gauges, then modal parameters are identified by nonlinear programming method. The new concept "force response coefficients" is presented in this paper. The relations between the strain and displacement are discovered through the force response coefficient stated above, and flexibility coefficient and stiffness coefficient. The strain mobility function of the system. Whose response is measured by strain gauges is .derived. The modal parameters of a vibration system, I. E natural frequencies, displacement modes, strain modes, generalized damping, normal stiffness and normal mass can be identified by the method described in this paper.
