Abstract: The effect of surface roughness characteristic in connection with hard counterpart in sealing systems on the operating performances of sealing systems is investigated. Two effects, micro-labyrinth sealing effect and micro-running in effect are revealed which occurred in tribological course between two relative moving sealing parts. The new concept and thought are put forward that the excellent surface topography of hard counterpart in sealing systems can be produced by means of controlling the surface machining technology to improve the operating performances of sealing systems.
