Abstract: The existence of function, behavior and structure depends on effect. An effect model with multiple input/output flows and multi-pole is presented by extending the old one in TRIZ with single input/output flow and two poles, and four effect modes and three reasoning methods for creating effect chain are proposed. The mapping relationships among function, behavior and structure are studied on the basis of effect, and then the extended-effect driven function-behavior-structure (EE-FBS) model, which supports function recognition, function decomposition and function-to-structure mapping, is constructed, and the computer-aided functional design software system is developed. The design of a Chinese traditional dropping pills machine is taken as an example to verify the effectiveness of the EE-FBS model.
