Experimental Design and Analysis for in Situ Macroscopic Multi-fields Measurements on Transformation Localization in NiTi Alloy

Abstract: A kind of in situ macroscopic multi-fields experimental setup for investigation on stress induced transformation localization in NiTi alloy has been designed. It is successfully obtained the visual field(by optical camera), strain field(by digital image correlation(DIC)) and temperature field(by infrared thermography) during mechanical testing. Another in situ multi-fields experimental setup in combination with thermo-mechanical testing system of dynamic thermal cycling is designed too. It could record visual field and strain field during temperature induced transformation localization. Tips and tricks for characterizing transformation localization by above two experimental designs would be introduced and discussed in detail.
