Abstract: In electrical discharge machining, the periodic electrode jump motion improves effective discharge rate and machining stability by reducing debris concentration in the machining gap. In order to explore its effect on debris concentration, narrow slot machining experiments with different speeds of electrode jump motions are conducted and analyzed; the high-speed and normal-speed jump motions are simulated based on computational fluid dynamics and their effects on debris concentration are analyzed accordingly. The simulation provides an important reference for understanding the jump motion’s effect on machining performance.
