Numerical and Experiment Investigation on Flow Characteristics inside Volute of a Centrifugal Fan with Anti-vortex Ring

Abstract: The 3-D numerical simulation of G4-73No.8D centrifugal fan and the fan with cylinder type and cone type anti-vortex ring separately is carried out with FLUENT software in order to investigate flow characteristics inside a fan. Numerical results show that the flow field with the rings is more uniform and the vortex strength is notably reduced compared with that without ring. Experiment results of performance indicate that the fan efficiency is increased by 3.1% averagely with the cylinder type anti-vortex ring and the fan efficiency is increased by 3.48% averagely with cone type anti-vortex ring when relative flow more than 53%. Experiment results agree with numerical results. The present study verifies that the cone type anti-vortex ring has a better performance than cylinder type one according to the effect of improving fan efficiency.
