Abstract: In order to analyze the complicated automotive stamping die characteristics for advanced high strength steel stamping, a method of die structure analysis based on the sheet metal formability simulation is proposed. After the sheet metal forming simulation, the boundary forces acting on the deformed sheet metal are extracted; And then the boundary forces are applied to the die surface to replace the interaction between the blank and die in the following die structure analysis process, which will simplify the die structural analysis finite element method(FEM) model. The work flow process is elaborated, and the implementation algorithm of load mapping is described. A hyperbolic bottomed cup drawing die is selected to testify the proposed algorithm and then validated by experiment by using an independently designed die stress accquisition system. The result shows that the load distribution has very good correlation with the thickening distribution on the drawing part, and the stress value from the FEM analysis at several positions on the die and punch are also consistent with the experimental results. The method can be used for the industrial stamping die structure analysis.
