MAGNETIC CIRCUIT OF ELECTROMAGNET IN DRUM-TYPE ELECTRO-MAGNET BRAKE FOR VEHICLES

Abstract: The braking Mechanism of a new-type vehicle brake, electromagnetic brake, as well as its pressure and abrasion on the critical component of electromagnet are analyzed. To minimize the unevenness of abrasion on both sides of the friction surface of the electromagnet and its rotational tendency in operation, a non-axial-symmetry quasi-oval-shaped magnetic circuit is proposed and designed. Theoretical calculation and analysis are conducted on the electromagnetic circuit with electromagnetic field analysis software Ansoft Maxwell 3D, and the electromagnet structure is optimized. Smoothness of the electromagnet in braking operation and abrasion uniformity are proved through simulation and experiment. Meanwhile, the braking power requirements of the specific vehicle model are met. Thus, it provides the basis for implementing the brake-by-wire method for vehicles.
