Abstract: Gap evenness and flushness between BIW (Body-in- white) openings and closure panels not only affect auto-body product anesthetic value, but also cause functional problems. Aimed to improve fitting quality, the Hausdorff distance is used to measure the degree of match effect and a synthetic fitting model is proposed combining influence of welding thermal effects. A genetic algorithm is utilized to search global optimization of interest fitting variables and a software prototype is developed.
Key words: Best fitting, Closure panels, Welding thermal effects
