Abstract: The tribological behavior of T8 steel pin sliding against Al2O3 ceramics disc is investigated with a Falex test rig under a compound additive T451+T306. The scanning electrion microscope(SEM) is used to examine the wear condition of the T8 steel pin, and the Auger electron spectroscopy(AES) to detect the chemical constitution of the wear zone. The results show that compound additive reveals excellent synergistic effect. With the content of T451 increased, the tribological properties of the compound is better, and with the content of T306 increased, the tribological properties is worse. In the experimental results, the most effective percent found for weight rate is: 2%T451+1%T306. The AES spectra of typical elements shows that the synergistic effect while compounding T451 with T306 is mainly because that the thick phosphorus-rich layer is formed on the worn surface of T8 steel pin. The wear pattern of the T8 steel pin / Al2O3 ceramics disc under the compound is attrition wear and tribochemical (corrosion) wear.
