Abstract: A new approach for spatial mechanism synthesis with the C-C binary link by an adaptive saddle fitting is presented. The adaptive saddle-fitting method is applied into a constant axis ruled surface fitting. The ruled surface fitting is converted into a space curve fitting and a spherical curve fitting by differential geometry. The approximate spherical-image circle-point, the approximate cylindrical striction-point and the approximate constant-axis line are defined. The mathematical model is set up to search out an approximate characteristic line on the moving body by combining the adaptive fitting method and saddle-point programming. The C-C binary link is synthesized to match multiple given positions approximately by means of searching an approximate characteristic line. An example is given to show the feasibility and validity of this approach.
