A STUDY ON THE STABILITY OF LARGE TURBINE GENERATOR SETS

Abstract: The stability equation for the large turbine generator sests is presented, in which the type of journal bearings may be fixed pad or tilting pad bearings, or the combination of this tow kinds of bearings. Numerical example is carried out for a domestic 300 MW turbine generator set, and a qualitative principle is suggested for the partition of a rotor bearing system. Furthermore, the stability of a centrifugal compressor rotor supported by two tilting pad bearings is investigated using the method presented in this paper and Lund’s method. The stability analysis shows that it makes a treat difference between the results obtained by Lund’s method and the phenomena exhibited by the centrifugal compressor.
