A STUDY ON A NEW WEAR RESISTANT DUCTILE CAST IRON

Abstract: A new wear resistant ductile cast iron which contains mainly needle (bainite and martensite) and some austenite can be obtained by adding Mn and minor element instead of Ni, Mo and Cu, and by different heat treatment from austempering. The toughness is over 9.8J/cm2, and hardness is up to 55HRC. The results of the application on grinding ball production indicate that the performance properties of the new material ball is better than that of the medium manganese ductile ball. Especially the impact fatigue property is seven times higher than that of the medium manganese ductile iron ball. But the production cost is as low as that of the medium manganese ductile iron ball.
