Abstract: In composite of carbide particle and base-alloy, the key point to bring the excellent wear resistant potential of carbide particles into full play is to make the base-alloy sufficiently strong and wear resistant so that it gives a lasting hold and strong support to carbide particles during abrasion. Composite of cast tungsten carbide (CTC) grains and high Cx-W alloy white cast iron is made by vnouum-mould cast-in-place hard facing process’ as a surface layer on grey iron substrate. Laboratory high-stress two-body and three-body abrasion tests show that: (1)The structure of base-alloy has dominating effect on abrasion resistances of composites in two-body and especially In three-body abrasion systems. (2)Composites with martens tic white cast iron as base-alloy have excellent wear resistances which increase drastically with the coarsening of CTC portioned in composites. As CTC grain size increases from 100~200 to 18~28 U.S. mash, wear resistances relative to hardened white cast iron 15Cr2MolCu increases 2.8~6.7 times in three-body abrasion system with quartz abrasive and 9~31 times in two-body abrasion system with Al2O3 abrasive.
