Abstract: In the present paper a thermal model of grinding with slotted wheel and the novel formula for the intermittent grinding temperature field are built based on the analyses of thermal model of conventional grinding and characteristics of intermittent grinding temperature. In the calculation of the temperature field, the effect of cooling liquid on grinding temperature is considered. The groove factor η and the convective heat transfer coefficient H which are effected on the grinding temperature are theoratical analysed with the help of electrical computer Agreement of calculation resuls and experimental data shows that the thermal model built and the formula deduced are practicable. It is also helpful to analyse other thermal problems emerged in mechanical operations such as intermittent cutting and milling.
