Abstract: It is known to all that natural diamond tool can not be used in ultra-precision Machining ferrous metals, such as steel, iron and manganese. The technical barrier is that the tool wear rate is too high to be accepted. In order to reduce the tool wear, proceed from controlling the cutting temperature, the authors advanced a new working technology Cryogenic machining ferrous metals with natural diamond tools. Our experimental results have demonstrated that the wear of diamond tool can be effectively, restrainted at cryogenic condition so that it is possible to cut ferrous metals with diamond tool by cryogenic machining, which is a breakthrough in ultra-precision machining.
