Abstract: This paper explains the philosophy behind the development of Electro-Rheological Fluids and their association with construction engineering vehicle control systems The origins of the subject are discussed and the line of development to the present day is traced out. Advantages and disadvantages of the application of these fluids is dealt with and de sign data for contemporary fluids is presented.
