Abstract: This paper is based on a set of the full numerical solutions, the influence of the thermal action upon the EHL properties in point contacts is analysed for a relatively wide operating condition range' and the thermal- Newtonian and Eyring's fluid models, are used separately in calculating the film temperature distribution and traction. In addition, with optical interferometry, the authors have designed and trial-produced an EHL experimental device, on which the point contact film shape and thickness .as well .as the traction force can be determined for different normal loads, rolling and sliding velocities, lubricants and ambient temperatures. Some of the experimental results are compared with the authors/ numerical solutions. Satisfactory agreement has been found.
