Abstract: Considering the actual characteristic of deep hole drilling process, a novel structure and working principle of vibration suppression damper based on shear mode are proposed. By using the properties of magneto-rheological fluid such as the fast response, continuous and reversible transformation, the vibration suppression damper which configured the layout of adjustable annular magnetic field will be conducted to assemble easily in the intermediate supports of drilling shaft system for controlling the damper value. In order to validate the feasibility of the above scheme, the application effect of drilling shaft system assembling the vibration suppression damper is discussed theoretically and experimentally, and simultaneously, the vibration characteristic of the drilling shaft and the accuracy of deep hole are measured. Experimental results show the vibration amplitudes and frequencies of drilling shaft can be controlled by changing the external electric current and the surface quality of hole can be improved effectively. Furthermore, the proposed design of vibration suppression damper is feasible, and this scheme will lay the application foundation for developing the vibration suppression method of drilling shaft and improving the machining precision of deep hole.
