CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER FOR TURBULENT FLOW OF SINGLE-PHASE FLUID THROUGH CONCENTRIC ANNULI

Abstract: As presented in a previous paper, the preliminary experimental data on the heat transfer coefficient at the inner wall for turbulent flow of water through concentric annuli of d2/d1=1.84 deviate from W.H.Mcadams and M.A.Mikheyevs’ recommended formulae, yet agree with E.S. Davis’ equation. This paper gives a general survey on heat transfer in turbulent flow of single-phase fluid through concentric annuli. As the result of this survey, it is concluded that, although numerous investigations of forced convective heat transfer in concentric annuli have been reported in the literature, appreciable inconsistencies in the published data have been made the suggested correlations for heat transfer coefficients at the inner wall uncertain. Further researches to clarify the subject from different aspects are suggested.
