Abstract: In view of the current situation of the unreachable online measurement for the barrel-type forgings, a new online measurement method for inner and outer diameter on barrel-type forging is proposed based on combining of the infrared technology and laser scanning technology. The temperature is measured by infrared double-wave temperature measurement system. The outer diameter is measured by laser scanning technology. A double-wave infrared temperature measurement system is constructed according to studying the principles of infrared temperature measurement and the measuring situation of the scene. The effects of temperature measurement caused by severe atmosphere and oxide of the forgings’ surface are reduced with this measuring method. The measuring precision is improved. The relationship between temperature and size is derived form cylindrical forgings heat conduction differential equation on the basis of heat transfer. The inner diameters are solved by combining with the temperature and outer diameter of the forging. Thus the online measurement of inner and outer diameter on barrel-type forging is achieved. The way is feasibility by the experiment and can meet the precision demand of on-spot measurements. The bottleneck of inner and outer diameter measurement on barrel-type forging is solved. And the way has a certain application prospects in barrel-type forging processing.
