EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON CREEP FORCES IN ROLLING CONTACT OF WHEEL/RAIL

Abstract: Experimental research on creep forces in wheel/rail rolling contact when a single wheelset is moving on a track is done with a single wheelset facility and a rolling-vibrating rig. The influnces exerted by the position of the moving wheelset and the contaminations on contact surfaces on the creep forces are taken into account in the research. The results of the test indicating the relationships among the creep forces, the lateral shifts of the wheelset centre, the yaw angle of the wheelset and contaminations are discussed. Also a comparison between the results calculated with Kalker's theory of three-dimensional elastic bodies in rolling contact and the those obtained from test are made.
