Abstract: Characteristics of the experimental rig developed for digital controlled magnetic bearings as well as experimental research are introduced. Feasible mathematical models of nonlinear parts and transfer function of the digital controller are established. To adopt various analysis methods for determining controller parameters achieves good results. A horizontal rotor weighing 16 kg is suspensed stably and is revolved up to 12 kr/min in the system. A method to suppress unbalance response with the magnetic bearings is devised. The experiments indicate that this method makes rotor smoothrumning and can improve the rotor’s rotating precision drastically. The implementation of this method is simple and convenient.
