Abstract: The influences of electric double layer on thin lubrication film thickness and pressure are studied. With the modified Reynolds equation, the film thickness and pressure of hydrodynamic lubrication and elastohydrodynamic lubrication are numerically calculated. The results show that the influence of electric double layer on the lubrication film thickness is significant while the initial film is very thin. The minimum film thickness will greatly increase if the electric double layer is considered. The increase of the initial film thickness will greatly weaken the effect of electric double layer. Electric double layer will decrease the friction coefficient. These tendencies are still applicable even if the materials of the friction pair are different.
