Abstract: Through large amount of investigation the authors have closely studied the dynamic curves of oxidation of silicon-containing industrial heat-resisting ductile iron, the composition and structure of oxide films. It has been pointed out that the difference in oxidation between cast iron and other alloys such as steel is due to the existence of graphite in cast iron. The oxidation resistance of cast iron varies greatly with different forms of graphite. But the first two major factors determining how well the oxidation resisance are, in proper order, the composition and structure of oxide films and grapgite morphlogy.
