Abstract: Along with the ocean strategy is more and more important in China, and with the tremendous development of engineering and technology, an important research direction of mechanical engineering, ocean technology, has come into being recently based on the integration with related interdisciplines. Because the definition of ocean technology has been long confusing at present, in this paper a kind of explicit definition of ocean technology is proposed based on the classification of ocean technology, while the content of ocean technology is concerned in details. Meanwhile, upon analyzing the uptrend of ocean technology, the development measures of ocean technology is discussed and suggested. As a traditional discipline, mechanical engineering is very important for ocean technology and engineering, otherwise, the development of ocean technology will promote the progress of mechanical engineering dramatically.
