Restocking Buffer Optimization of Automated Picking System

Abstract: To improve the picking efficiency of the automated picking system and reduce the restocking equipment investment cost, the mathematical model of the input and output balance is built based on the analysis of working process of restocking buffer. The optimal condition and the critical condition of restocking buffer to meet the picking operation are proposed. According to the layout between automatic stocking system and picking system, the input mathematical model and the length optimization model of restocking buffer are established; At last, the heuristic clustering method using first clustering then ordering principle is designed to optimize the stock keeping unit (SKU) allocation of stocking system. The simulation results show that the optimized allocation algorithm can shorten the length of restocking buffer by 9% compared with the allocation method of total number allocation.
