Abstract: The temperature field’s and stress field’s variations on the Al2O3/ZrO2 (Y2O3) ceramic cutting tool’s edge are analyzed with numerical simulation method. Transient and steady state finite element analysis are respectively used to determine the initial variables. Finite element cutting model is created by the Deform2D and Johnson-Cook software. Cutting process of 1045 hardened steel using Al2O3/ZrO2 (Y2O3) ceramic cutting tool is simulated and result shows consistency. Comparing with the practical cutting the analysis indicates that temperature and stress field of cutting edge contact surface, which is obtained through the Lagrange and ALE approaches, will have gradient change while converting the feed or cutting speed, thus the best cutting conditions are selected. The parameters provide theoretical data to diagnosing ceramic tool’s life and increasing reliability.
