Abstract: This paper presents a mechanistic model of milling forces for helical end mills. In the model the influence of exponential relationship of chip thickness variation on cutting force and the influences of cutter offset on effective chip thickness, entry end exit angles of cutting edges and variation in amplitude and wave form of milling forces are concerned. The computer algorisms are developed for to determine the cutter offset using the peak cutting force ratios of different cutting teeth in the measured milling force and to identify the milling force coefficients. The meansured milling forces obtained from milling tests. The milling force simulation approach presented in this paper improves the accuracy of simulation and provides the real situation of milling force.
