Abstract: In order to investigate the effect of hybrid ultrasonic pulsed current on the properties of manufactured samples, single-pass multilayer samples of ER5356 aluminum alloy were fabricated by using Conventional Pulsed Gas Metal Arc (CP-GMA) and additive manufacture processes respectively, and a comparative study was carried out to investigate the porosity defects, microstructure and mechanical properties. Compared with the CP-GMA samples, the porosity of the HUP-GMA samples was reduced from 0.747% to 0.258%, and the average area of the porosity was reduced from 461.8 μm2to 236.8 μm2, and the grains in the intra-layer region of the additive samples were significantly refined, and the average area of the grains was reduced from 73.8×103μm2 to 27.8×103μm2.The tensile properties of both types of samples showed anisotropy, showing that the tensile properties in the horizontal direction were higher than those in the vertical direction. Under the action of hybrid ultrasonic pulsed current, the mechanical properties of the HUP-GMA samples were improved to a certain extent. In the horizontal direction, the tensile strength was increased from 255.9 MPa±3 MPa to 264.9 MPa±5 MPa, and the elongation was increased from 21.9%±1.4% to 27.2%±4.1%; while in the vertical direction, the tensile strength was increased from 246.3 MPa±7 MPa to 251.8 MPa±2 MPa, and the elongation was increased from 20.9%±1.5% to 26.9%±1.9%; and the microhardness was also increased from 67.2 HV to 75.6 HV.
