Influences of Pitch Circle Size on Tooth Life for Cylindrical Power Skiving Tools

Abstract

Abstract: Power skiving is a generating machining method suit to internal and multi-link gears with high efficiency and precision, which exhibits powerful market competitiveness with comply the development of new energy vehicles. As one important component of power skiving, the structural parameters of power skiving tool directly determines its cutting performance and work life. Nowadays, the optimization of skiving tools is focus on the teeth geometries like rake angle, oblique angle, and helix angle with combining traditional experience of gear cutting tools and finite element method based simulations. However, the pitch circle sizes of gear and skiving tool directly decide their meshing condition and produce importance effects on working life of cutting tools. Henceforth, taking the general cylindrical power skiving tool as research object, the influence of pitch circle size on working performance of cutting tool is analyzed by element cutting tool (ECT) method through evaluating the instantaneous rake angle and non-deform chip thickness and the cutting engaging period comprehensively, providing guidance of pitch circle size selection for power skiving tool optimal design of tool life.
