Dynamic Characteristics Analysis of the Sealed Ends Squeeze Film Damper with O-ring

Abstract: In order to study the dynamic characteristics of sealed ends squeeze film damper(SFD) with O-ring under the influence of inertial force, the dynamic characteristic coefficients of sealed ends SFD are derived from energy approximation method under long bearing approximation(LBA) and semi-oil film assumptions. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics model of sealed ends SFD is established, and numerical simulation is carried out based on the transient time step solution method and dynamic grid technology. Both theoretical calculation and numerical simulation are conducted to analyze the effects of whirling frequency on the stiffness and damping. The theoretical and simulation results correspond with each other precisely. Besides,the numerical simulation considering two-phase flow effect which shows that the fluid inertia and damping increase with frequency is verified by the experiment based on the two-way excitation test of the sealed ends SFD with O-ring. This study will provide a reference for the design and application of sealed ends SFD with O-ring.
