Abstract: The reliability and maintenance activities of serial production systems greatly affect key performance indicators such as system capacity, product quality, production costs, and service levels. To improve system reliability, raise production capacity, save operation and maintenance costs, and ensure product quality and service level, a novel maintenance policy considering customer satisfaction for buffered serial production systems is proposed. The customer satisfaction model is presented to quantify the customers' requirements for product quality and production time. The impact of equipment degradation on product quality is analyzed, and the quality loss model for products based on equipment states is established. Based on the threshold of quality for maintenance, the process of quality loss is discretized, and combining the theory of opportunity maintenance, the maintenance policy for the system is provided. By maximizing the order profit, the optimal preventive maintenance threshold and quality maintenance threshold are derived. Finally, an automotive production line consisting of 15 stations is taken as an example to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed maintenance strategy.
