NUMERICAL STUDY FOR BEHAVIOR OF TIP CLEARANCE FLOW IN AXIAL-FLOW PUMP

Abstract: Three-dimensional tip clearance flow in axial-flow pump is simulated based on N-S equations, standard k –e turbulence model, and SIMPLEC method, with various tip clearances of blade and work conditions. The influence of clearance flow on flow fields and performance of the rotor is investigated emphatically. The numerical result shows increasing the tip clearance will reduce hydrostatic head, especially at small flow rate.
