New Progress and Development Trend of Manufacturing of Functional Surface Structure

Abstract: The manufacturing technology of functional surface structure, aims to fabricate structures of various morphologies, scales, and specific functions on machined surfaces, it differs greatly from traditional machining methods. The functional surface structure has been applied widely in many fields, including aerospace, biomedical engineering, optoelectronics and new energy, due to wide varieties and excellent function. With the deepening of research and rapid development of manufacturing technologies, the research of the functional surface structure manufacturing is transforming from special processes to multi-disciplines integrated design, fabrication and key technologies. The characteristics and applications of functional surface structure are introduced, as well as the research progresses of manufacturing technologies of functional surface structure in recent ten years are summarized. Furthermore, the problems existed on functional surface structure manufacturing are pointed out and it is also suggested that more efforts should be made to what in the future.
