Abstract: Nitrogen contained boric acid ester and polyether additive are all well-performed water-based lubricant additives. The film forming properties of the two additives mixed water-based lubricating fluid is not studied. The transparent aqueous solution is the 1∶1 (m/m) mixture of lauric acid random copoly-ether (LPE) and boric acid triethanolamine (BN). The effect of concentration, load and linear speed on the film-forming property of the mixed polyether aqueous solution are analyzed by the nanometer scale lubrication film thickness gauge (NGY-6). Results of the tests show that film thickness of the water-based lubricant (5%, v/v, load 100 N) is 5.5 nm, and it can bear the load of 0.86 GPa. The film-forming property of water-based lubricants is affected by the concentration, load and linear speed. With the increase in the load, the effect of linear speed on film-forming property decreases. Meanwhile, in the experiments, the chemical adsorption film is formed on the friction pair surfaces. The nanoscale film-forming properties of the lubricating film can be widely applied in the field of precision instruments.
