CONFIGURATION SPACE OF MULTIPLE FEATURES WITH APPLICATION TO MODELING AND EVALUATION OF ORIENTATION TOLERANCES

Abstract: A systematic introduction to the theory of configuration space of multi-features is given, appealing to Lie groups and algebras. Local parametrization of the constrained submanifold is obtained. Then problem formulation is given in the form of the ASME Y14.5.1M-1994 standard. Since the configuration space of toleranced features is explicitly formulated, orientation tolerances can be modeled and evaluated using algorithms for form error evaluation problems, constrained in the submanifold. Finally an example of plane-to-plane angularity is given to illustrate our proposed method for tolerance modeling and evaluation.
