Abstract: The brake wear behavior of two coatings composited of Fe-Ni-Co-WC and 35CrMo steel is tested on the MM-1000 tester. The results show that, compared with the steel, the wear resistance of the coating is largely improved, the wear resistance of the coating with more WC is better than that of the coating with less WC. Abrasive, oxidation and adhesive wear, thermal shock cracking and layer delamination occur on the worn surface of the steel. But, no thermal shock cracking and the delamination occur on the worn coating surface. Oxidation and adhesive wear of the coating is lighter than that of the steel. The layer delamination of the steel results from the accumulation of plastic deformation, nucleation and propagation of cracks.
