Abstract: Complex curved face can obtained high precisely on the five-axis machine tool with three translational and two rotational axes. But its error compensation is far more complicated than that of three-axis machine tool because of coupled effects between the joint variables and the position/orientation of the cutting point. Adjusting one joint usually results in changes in multiple components in the tool-part relation. Based on the rigid body kinematics with small error assumption and coordinate transformation method, the volumetric error compensation model is created by decoupling the error compensation motions, and the position and orientation compensation values of the joint variables can be obtained finally with the model.
