Abstract: The HAZ "hot short” behaviour of Monel 400 alloy joint is simulated and investigated. The effect of various heat input and Mg content is inquired. The result shows that there exists a lowplasicity "hot shorts" zone at temperature range 550~850℃ in the HAZ of Monel 400 alloy joint. Lower heat input and appropriate higher Mg content are advantageous to decrease the "hot short" susceptibility and thereby improve the resistance to cracking.
